I’m working on getting the Chaos Project moved into a WordPress plugin at this time.  After that it should be pretty easy to allow folks to add new items to the Chaos Project.  Right now you can take a look at the alpha-preview of it.

Basic Roleplaying - The Chaosium d100 System

Basic Roleplaying - The Chaosium d100 System

I’d really like to review the published version of Basic Roleplaying.  But I can’t.  As a playtester we are supposed to recieve a copy of the final published rules but while everyone else seems to have recieved theirs I have yet to see a copy in the post as yet.  I’m not sure if I got lost in the shuffle or what even though Dustin confirmed my address.  Once I get a copy I will post my review of it.

I hope those of you that have gotten copies already are enjoying them.  Let us know what you think!

Basic Roleplaying has been loaded onto a truck and is on it’s way to Chaosium.  It’s expected to arrive Tuesday June 24th.  After which I imagine the pre-orders and playtester copies will be shipped out.  That ought to keep the Shipping Shoggoth busy.

Chaosium has also posted the final table of contents which I am re-posting below.

  1. Introduction 5
  2. Characters 15
  3. Skills 46
  4. Powers 85

Basic Roleplaying - The Chaosium d100 System

Chaosium has announced that Basic Roleplaying is about to be sent to the printers for a May 2008 release. Basic Roleplaying now has a new cover by Paul Carrick and I must say it looks pretty good.

Chaos

Chaos

The first publicly usable version of the Chaos Project is available for viewing. There are five different categories available, Chaotic Features, Magic Items, Found Items, NPCs and a Bestiary. Not all features that are planned are implemented and feedback is wanted.

Some of the planned features include:

  • Registered users can add new items
  • Users can edit the items they entered
  • Filter to select items base on different criteria (system type, milieu, etc.)

Instruction for sending feedback through the support forum for the Chaos Project is available on the right sidebar of the Chaos Project pages.

We are moving from using Drupal to manage our site to a WordPress/MediaWiki combination. The move will take a day or two to complete so please be patient with us. The old site is still available at http://www.d100.org. Once the content has been moved we will point all the URLs to http://www.basicroleplaying.net.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Basic Roleplaying Advanced Readers Copy

I’ve been meaning to post about this for some time. Many of you are probably already away of this information but I’m going to post about it anyway. In any event Chaosium is in the process of finalizing the 1st Edition of the Basic Roleplaying book. Basic Roleplaying is a complete rules system integrating 30 years of game play and refinement to allow play in any genre, from fantasy to sci-fi, from modern horror to supers and everything in between. From what Chaosium says the final book will released sometime around June 2008 and run somewhere in the range of 390 pages.

Gary Gygax at GenCon 2007

Gary Gygax at GenCon 2007

Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons along with Dave Arneson, has passed away on March 4th 2008. Gary has recently been working with Troll Lord Games, a small paper and pencil RPG publisher. Troll Lords forums have up a post noting that he has passed away. That Associated Press has confirmed that the 69 year old game designer has indeed passed away.

Whether you love or hate D&D it must be duly acknowledged that Gary Gygax was the was, along with Dave Arneson, known as the Father of Roleplaying. He co-founded Tactical Studies Rules (now part of Wizards of the Coast) in 1974 with Don Kaye. Gygax was the son of Swiss immigrant Martin Gygax and an American mother. His gaming experiences began at the age of five and six with playing pinochle and chess as well as the usual pretend games of any child that could be likened to live action role-playing. He had been in poor health, suffering multiple strokes and a near-heart attack.

May the gods speed you on your next great adventure, Gary!

We moved to a new dedicated server with better bandwidth – so the site should be faster. Much faster. There were a few glitched which I think have all been corrected. If you encounter and errors please contact us or add a comment to this post. Thanks.
